Conference FAQ

Q1. Can I register only classes I want to take and pay separately?
A. This 3-day conference consists of mele, hula ʻauana, hula kahiko, lei making and ʻhōike. Participants are encouraged to commit to all programs we provide during the weekend. However, Friday mele class and Sunday lei making class are exceptional. As Friday mele class will be on the weekday evening, it is not mandatory to attend. If you cannot make full commitment to the 3-day conference, but still would like to experience the essence, Sunday Lei Making class is available to take separately from the conference.

Q2. Can my family come to see the Sunday Hōʻike?
A. YES! We are planning to hold hōʻike from 5p.m. to 7p.m.

Q3. What should I bring?
A. Water bottle and your own pāʻū hula. Each female dancer must have a pāʻū hula to participate in the workshop sessions –– male dancers are highly encouraged to wear pāʻū  hula as well.

Q4. I am very new to hula and I don't have pāʻū hula yet. Can I still come?
A. Yes, of course. If you don' have pāʻū hula yet, please wear comfortable T-shirt and pants. We will be also selling pāʻū hula at the conference.

Q5. Should I pack my own lunch?
A. Saturday and Sunday lunches are included to the registration fee. Participants will be served Hawaiian cuisine both days. However, if you have any diet restrictions or food allergy, please bring your own food/snack.

Q6. Can I record the lessons?
A. NO VIDEO AND/OR RECORDING is allowed without the expressed permission of each individual Kumu Hula teaching the sessions, as mele & hula are personal property and require the utmost care and respect in the manner passed down from our kūpuna to us today.
